All outbound connections to the internet from any internet browser will be checked against an automatically updated database to best limit the employees connectivity. The filtering is broken down into many categories. Here are a few categories that may be filtered if chosen. porn, sex, job search, shopping, violence, warez, spyware, dating, aggressive, movies and more... There is also a category of addon filtered sites. These are sites which are not listed in the database and your company decides they want it blocked. The site gets added to the addon category and it will begin getting blocked.
An authentication model can be setup to authenticate with basic user authentication and those users in groups like staff and management so staff internet access is more restricted than management access. The authentication model can also be setup to use NTLM if your users are on a domain controller.
Caching actually helps save money as images of sites previously visited are stored on the proxy server so if the site is again visited later those images are downloaded from the Net Bound Guardian instead of on the internet. This saves the amount of bandwidth your company uses through your internet provider. This also speeds up the load time of the revisited site as the images will not be loaded from the originating site but instead will be downloaded from the proxy server sitting local on your network.
Time schedules can be set for different groups so access is allowed during timeframes and then disallowed for the remaining time frame.
The core function of the Net Bound Guardian is that it's a proxy server. This combined with blocking the outbound port of port 80 and 443 requires your internal users (employees) to use the Net Bound Guardian appliance thus giving the employer control of what internet activities are allowed with a web browser.
The Net Bound Guardian can also be used by parents who want to restrict internet access and schedule times the internet can be accessed.
A proxy server is a computer which accepts requests and takes those requests and forwards them on to other servers elsewhere. In this case it accepts web site requests and forwards the connections to the web servers on the internet for that site. If the site is not allowed to be connected then the request will be denied by the proxy server.
We are not an ISP (Internet Service Provider). We provide solutions for businesses which are internet in nature and may need to be located in a data center or at the cusotmer premises. We do not provide a connection to the Internet as a whole.
There are many web sites which should not be trusted because there is a possibility of obtaining a virus just by visiting the site or downloading a file from the untrusted site. Restricting access to these types of sites greatly reduces this risk.
We can certainly lease an NBG server configured as requested and get all the functionality except for caching. The reason is your cache should be located locally on your network for quicker download. The remaining functions will behave the same.
A support contract is not required. You can pay monthly for the time period in which you need changes made on your NBG server. These can be purchased in increments of 20 requests at $30.00/Mo each increment. We also have unlimited requests available at $99.00/Mo. Leased NBG servers in our Data Centers come with 35 support requests per month. Then increments of 20 would need to be purchased beyoend the included requests.
